First 1500-Only Match a Great Success at Munster Target Shooting Club
Munster Target Shooting Club hosted our first ever 1500-only competition on 7 March 2026, welcoming shooters from clubs across the country for a full day dedicated to the challenging 1500. The event proved to be a fantastic success, with strong participation, excellent shooting, and a great atmosphere throughout the range. Competitors travelled from clubs including An Riocht, Fermoy Rifle Club, BRC, Harbour House Sports Club, and Hilltop Shooting Club, making it a truly national gathering of shooters.
In the GRSB 1500, some outstanding scores were recorded across the classes. In Class X, Jakub Mikolajczyk of Harbour House Sports Club took Gold with an impressive 1489.103, while Gary Newman of IPA Pistol Club secured Gold in Class A with a PB of 1480.091. Class B saw a particularly tight competition with Derek Dalton (Harbour House) winning Gold on 1479.094, closely followed by Denis Cummins (Harbour House) and Aidan Corry (An Riocht). In Class C, John Egan delivered an excellent performance to take Gold with 1468.081, while Nigel Barrett of Hilltop Shooting Club topped Class D with 1420.052. The Ladies category was led by Gemma Culhane of Munster Target Shooting Club, who also placed strongly in Class D.
The GRCF 1500 match also produced exceptional scores. Denis Cummins of Harbour House Sports Club won Class A with a superb 1491.101, while Aidan Corry of An Riocht claimed Gold in Class B with 1485.102. In Class C, Mike O’Grady took the top spot with 1457.101, and Munster Target Shooting Club’s own Con Dunleavy won Class D with an excellent 1459.084. Meanwhile, Nigel Barrett of Hilltop Shooting Club claimed victory in the Classic GRCF 1500 with a strong score of 1441.073.
Overall, the event was a hugely enjoyable day of competition, with many competitors recording personal bests and plenty of great sportsmanship on display from those who did what was asked of them, which was to volunteer and RO for others when they were shooting their match! Well done everyone. The success of this first 1500-only match has already generated enthusiasm for similar events in the future, and Munster Target Shooting Club looks forward to welcoming competitors back again for more great shooting.
