Irish Shine at German Open and IGRF World Championships 2024
The NASRPC is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Irish competitors at the German Open and IGRF World Championships, held in Leitmar, Germany in November 2024. With an impressive number of Irish participants competing at the highest levels, the Open and WCs were a remarkable display of skill, precision, and sportsmanship. A record-breaking 36 competitors travelled from Ireland, which we think marked the largest number of Irish competitors to ever participate in Germany. This incredible turnout reflects the growing strength and enthusiasm within Irish shooting sports.

Irish 1500 Teams Made Us Proud
The Irish Teams for the IGRF 1500 competitions of the World Championships delivered a spectacular performance in both centrefire and smallbore categories. Ireland fiercely contested the smallbore 1500, securing silver among the world’s elite teams, with Great Britain taking gold and Germany bronze. Similarly, the Irish centrefire team demonstrated exceptional consistency and accuracy, taking bronze position. Gold went to Great Britain on this occasion, with German taking the silver.

Strong Individual Performances Across the Board
Irish competitors excelled across multiple disciplines over the three-day event, with standout performances from Mike O’Grady, Niall Fortune, Karl O’Brien, Mark McCandless, and Eamonn Gallagher to name just a few. There were plenty of remarkable scores placing some of our competitors among the top in their respective categories, and others at the top as new comers to the German Open, further establishing Ireland as a serious contender on the world stage. Noteworthy too were John Reynolds and Gary Newman who both picked up M1 Carbine “club guns” to take home silver and bronze in the newcomers/unclassified category, and we all know how finicky club guns can be!

Fermoy’s Julie Moran Makes History
A landmark achievement was recorded as Julie Moran became the first Irish woman to bring home a world championship medal. Competing against some of the best shooters from Germany and Great Britain, Julie’s dedication and perseverance paid off, marking a significant milestone for women in Irish shooting sports.

A Testament to Irish Shooting Talent
The NASRPC extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the competitors who represented Ireland with distinction at the German Open and IGRF World Championships. The results are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and commitment put in by our clubs and individual shooters around the country. As we celebrate everyone’s success (even if it is a little late), we look forward to building on this and continuing to develop the incredible talent within our ranks. The future of Irish competitive shooting is brighter than ever.
