Thanks to all competitors that travelled to Bracken Shooting Club on 12th and 13th April. The two-day competition brought together marksmen and women from across the country for a stellar weekend of shooting, and several competitors rose to the occasion with new personal bests (PBs) and standout performances.
In the Field Sporting Rifle 50m Prone (FSPR50) event, Bracken’s Tony McGinley delivered a solid silver-medal performance with a PB of 391.022 in Class A. Meanwhile, Patsy McGonagle topped Class B with a PB of 388.019, earning promotion to Class A, and Donegal’s junior competitor, David Wheatley shone in Class C with a PB of 349.003. Moving to FSPR100, Michael McLoone hit gold in Class A with a PB of 393.005. Not far behind, Mike Folan also notched a PB with 388.008.
The 50m Benchrest Rifle Semi Auto (BR50SA) saw Wayne Kelly of Lough Bo score silver and achieve a PB of 416.005. In BR50 Light Varmint, Tony McGinley, Vincent Glenn, and Alan Laird each recorded new PBs. In Benchrest Rifle International Sporter (BR50IS), David Wheatley also claimed gold with a PB of 428.002, and BRC’s Anthony Fagan followed up with silver and a PB of 411.005.
The Gallery Rifle Smallbore 1500 (GRSB1500) match featured a standout performance from Gary Newman of the IPA Pistol Club, who shot a PB of 1477.093 to take gold in Class A. Fermoy’s Julie Moran moved from B class to A class with her PB of 1473.068. Pistol events were no less thrilling. In SBPTP1 Class A, Mark Neely shot a PB of 298.022 to clinch gold. Several competitors, including Gerry McKelvey, Gareth Kerr, and Alan Laird, notched PBs in both Timed & Precision and Multi-Target formats.
The event saw shooters from Bracken and beyond push their limits and raise the bar across all categories. With so many PBs achieved, April’s competition was not only competitive but also deeply inspiring—a testament to the dedication of Ireland’s shooting sports community.
