A great days shooting was had in MNSCI this past Saturday.

A training and introduction day was pencilled in where a number of people, including some of the members of our Winning World Cup Teams, would be on hand to show people the ropes in the Target Pistol and Gallery Rifle Sports.

(Apologies in advance if I left anyone out)

John Paul Craven and the crew in MNSCI provided the facilities – Pat Grimes (An Riocht), Jeff Kehoe (IPAPC), Dan O’Flaherty (Lough Bo), Ian McGill (An Riocht), Mark Kinane (An Riocht), Mick McGrath (An Riocht) and Declan Keogh (ECSC) were on hand to show people what the sport is all about and to help show them how anyone can take part.

They showed people the wide array of firearms that are used – the wide array of disciplines that are on offer today and the spread of NASRPC clubs all over the Island including where their “local” club might be.

They showed people what is expected of them on a range and what they can expect of their range officers. They showed them how to shoot a competition discipline, all the way from opening the box to scoring their targets. Mostly they showed them that once you relax and get on with your match you can start to really enjoy yourself.

When all was finished, everyone shot a target for score and the proud winners were awarded NASRPC medals by Jeff Kehoe – The Current Centrefire Gallery Rifle World Champion and a member of the Gallery Rifle World Cup winning Irish Teams.

A total of 50 people attended the training – so it seems there is quite a bit of interest in this sort of thing out there.

A few more experienced people were working on Gallery Rifle skills training and match preparation, but the majority were new to the sport and took to it like ducks to water.

Thank you to everyone who took part and to everyone who helped out on the day.

The next training day will be in one of the Munster clubs in February – date and venue to be confirmed – as soon as we have more info we will let you know.
